History of the town:
Proddatur is the second largest town in the YSR District (Kadapa) of Andhra Pradesh state in India and is known for its gold and cotton business. It is situated at 430Kms from State capital and 51 kilometers from Kadapa town. It was constituted in the year 1915 and is upgraded as Special grade Municipality in 1998 and is spread over an area of 7.125Sq.km.
It is famous for its celebrations during the Vijaya Dasami festival and is considered second only to Mysore when it comes to these celebrations. The city is referred to as the “Second Bombay” because of the volume of gold and cotton business that happens there. It has famous Sufi Saint (Sha Hussain vali) Darga, largely know as Chausain Vali Darga. It is located in the heart of the city near Gold Market.

It is known for varieties of evening snack items (e.g. Mirchi Bajji, Cut Mirchi, Rice Puffs Mixture and various other sweets and hot snacks) with mouthwatering taste. Various stalls boast this trend in the town. Tangedu Palley sweets are made in Proddatur, using a special ghee.
Geography :
Proddatur is located at 14044’ N 78033’ E & 14073’ N 78.550 . It has an average elevation of 155 meters (508 feet). Proddatur is on the banks of river Penna.
Demography :
As per the Indian census 2001, Proddatur town had a population of 150309. The population includes 877 SCs, 11291 STs, The female population is about 74,937 the total BPL population is 53,647.
