INTRODUCTION:
The Bhongir town is associated with its fort which was built on an isolated rock. It is believed that the western Chalukya ruler Tribuvanamalla Vikramadithya - VI got the fort at this place constructed which was named after him as Tribhuvanagiri. The name subsequently became Bhuvanagiri and Bhongir. The fort is associated with the rule of the Kakatiya queen Rudramadevi and her Grandson Prataparudhra. The town was constituted as a city Municipality in the year 1910. Subsequently constituted as Municipality in the year of 1952.
Bhongir is a fast growing town having spread over 31.12 sq. kms. It is situated at a distance of 67 kms. from Nalgonda District Head Quarters and distance of 48 kms from the state capital Hyderabad. The famous Pilgrim of Lord Yadagiri Laxminarasimha Swamy Devasthanam is located nearby 13 kms. The population of the town is 50407 as per 2001 census and 53434 as per 2011 Census. The town is located at 170–13’, North longitude and 780-53’ east longitude and 609.9 mtr. above the main sea level.
Bhongir Municipality is predominately covered by residential areas followed by commercial, public semi-public offices and Cinema Halls, A.P.S.R.T.C Bus Stand, Railway Station, Market yards and now growing with major industries.

TOPOGRAPHICAL FEATURES :
The National Highway No. 202 leading to Hanmakonda passes through the midst of the town from West to East. Thus the Town is divided into two segments. The northern part of the Town is covered with the residential colonies like Urban Colony, Sriram Nagar, Gunj Area, Kisan Nagar, Vidya Nagar, Pahadi Nagar, Pragathi Nagar, Banjara Hills, Tarakaramnagar & Hussainabad and the Southern part of the town is covered with Ram Nagar, L.B. Nagar, Singanna Gudem, Baharpet, Housing Board Colony, Jaleelpura, Beechmahalla, Kummariwada, Seetha Nagar, Boyawada, Indra Nagar, Reddywada, Brahman Wada etc. 4 lane By-pass Road is passing from southern side of the town. The approach roads to these colonies are radiated from the National Highway.Big commercial establishments and shops have come up on either side of the National Highway as well as all along the main roads of the Residential Colonies. The APSRTC Bus Stand is located in the middle of the Town. The Railway Station, Mother Dairy is located besides of the National Highway.
